R U N N I N G: circumcision

My 1^st Son had a circumcision by Laser method in December 2010 during school holiday. The school holiday was chosen because of its long holiday and sufficient time for the recuperation process.

“Some traditional circumcisions involve only a small cut to the foreskin or partial removal. They all removed sufficient foreskin that the glans remained fully exposed even on a non-erect penis” – taken from the internet.

(Bersunat menggunakan kaedah LASER. Book dengan klinik seminggu sebelum tarikh sunat tu.

Kenapa aku memilih teknik laser sedangkan ada teknik yg lain dalam pasaran? Jawapannya, setelah aku meneliti baik buruk kaedah2 lain, ini adalah hasil edisi siasat aku :)

Cara Tok Mudim (Traditional Method)

There are several method practiced by our general practise clinic here. The traditional method performed by providers who may have special training but who are normally not health professionals. They are known as Tok Mudim.

Using basic tools – sharp knife and forceps.

Normally without anaesthesia.

The traditional method is every child’s nightmare. The process is less hygiene and took longer for the wound to heal. Average is 1 week.

There are possibilities that there will be continuous bleeding from the wound after the cut.

This method had no longer been practice in major city. However, certain village do perform the procedure.

susah nak cari pun tok mudim ni, lagipun dengar cerita, pendarahan selepas kena potong tu agak tinggi risikonya...so, tak payah le..)

Cara Pembedahan (Surgery Method)

It’s a more hygienic and proper tools are being used by professional doctors. However, the cost is high as the rate obtained from their website. The cost range from RM400-00 to RM700-00.

(Bukan bedah betul2. Cuma lebih sistematik sikit. Buat kat hospital, semua kelengkapan ada. Tapi mahal le, ada yg mencecah RM400-00 - RM700-00. Gilo!)

Cara Clamp (Smart Clamp)

There are clinics that still practicing this method as it much easier compared to surgery or laser. It’s fast. However, do you know how is the process like?

The doctor will fit the smart clamp at the penis area whereby a certain amount of skin will get ‘clamp’. (the skin will be later on removed).

The smart clamp will be fastened for days (average 3 days)

During that time, you may need your child to behave in order to avoid any heavy impact which may cause injury

After 3 days (according to a friend) we need to return to the clinic for the smart clamp to be removed.

The process of ‘dismantling’ the smart clamp always ended up with the skin being glued at the smart clamp – for the child, it’s a torture! My friend’s son screamed like crazy during this process!!

The setback of using the smart clamp method are our child may get uncomfortable with that thing hanging, it may cause infection as a certain amount of urine may get stuck in the smart clamp tube – you may need to clean it.

I would not recommend this method as the process was too long and I don’t think you really want your child to suffer.

(Biasanya orang panggil 'smart clamp'. Cara ni memang kebanyakkannya di gunakan oleh klinik2. Senang, cepat. Tapi, tau tak prosesnya macam mana?

Pegi klinik, dia pasangkan benda tu, lepas 3 hari rasanya dia suruh datang balik, bukak smart clamp tu. Tak ke leceh, buat menyeksa budak je.

Keburukkannya kalau ada infection, nak kena jaga betul2 dlm tempoh clamp tu. kena selalu cuci, kena pulak kalau air kencing tu kat dlm saluran plastik smart clamp tu, dah ke dalam sangat mcm mana nak cuci. Ini akan menyebabkan infection.

Satu lagi, Melekat! Kulit yg terdedah ada potensi utk melekat dgn plastik smart clamp ni, pedih oooo...

Satu lagi, bila nak bukak balik, biasanya akan sakit sikit masa ni, so, mana mak bapak yg tak tahan nangis tu, bersabarlah.)

Cara Sunat Ramai-Ramai (tak kira smart clamp ke, doktor datang ke) (Group Circumcision)

Either by Smart Clamp, Surgery or Laser (or traditional), the group circumcision is practised where children are gathered together just to enlightened their weakened spirit. Spraying of water as to take a shower before the cutting process is normal.

However, waiting for your turn took a very long process. If a person took about 10 minutes, it will make the 20^th person another 3 hours.

(Ni paling meriah sekarang kalau buat time cuti sekolah. Biasa buat kat kampung2 je, sekarang , kat bandar pun dah ada. Mandikan budak2 tu dgn air lepas tu baru bersunat. Kalau ramai2 ni, takde la budak takut ye......tapi.....

Kalau dah sorang tu cakap sakit (dia nak kena sorang je jadi punca cakap sakit tu), berterabur la semua jadi takut, ada yang lari pun, menangis meraung taknak sunat toksah cakap la. Kelakar tengok kerenah masing2.

Satu lagi, nak menunggu giliran tu, aduh azab gila, buatnya kalau ada 20 ke 30 orang, setiap sorang 20 minit, berejam la kena tunggu. Masa tu, anak dah risau gila dah. Kalau mak bapak dia tak boleh sabar beratur beli nasi lemak, so,janganlah.)

Cara Laser (Laser Method)

The excessive foreskin will be cut using a device like this :

A battery operated device has a small electric current produced at the end with a push of a button.

The electric current produce by the device will be used as an incision and at the same time burn the wound without bleeding (minimal bleeding in some cases) but not to worry, it’s clean and fast. You may encounter a mild smell of burning skin during this process which is normal.

The setback of using this method is the aftermath, once the anaesthetic had worn out, the child would begin to feel the pain which would become so intense within the minutes. As such, taking the painkiller given by the clinic would ease the pain.

The pain will eventually subside within few hours after the circumcision until there is no need for the painkiller medication anymore. Please allow the wound to heal by itself for a day (24 hours or more) for best result.

The above story was based on experience and as a guidance to all the parents out there (different child may focus different experience or effect).

(Kulit lebihan akan di potong menggunakan satu alat. Mcm torch light kecik tu. Alat ni rechargeable. Takde rupa laser pun, cuma dia hasilkan arus letrik kot kat hujung dia (laser la tu) utk memotong kulit lebihan tu tanpa ada pendarahan. Maksudnya, bila laser tu potong, dia keringkan sekali darah tu. Maksudnya lagi, luka tak banyak, dan cepat sembuh la.

Keburukan guna alat ni, kalau tanya aku ada satu je. Bila ubat bius tu abis, anak akan rasa sakit, sampai menangis la anak aku tak boleh tidur. Tapi kejap je, rasanya dalam sejam dua je. Doktor bagi ubat tahan sakit sekali. So, Nasihat aku, lepas je sunat laser ni, jangan nak singgah giant ke, guardian ke, pusat pakaian hari-hari ke. Terus je balik rumah, bagi ubat tahan sakit tu, 4 gelen terus. Insyaallah, tak sakit la budak tu.

Satu lagi nasihat, buat pagi2, suruh doktor tu bangun cepat2. Bila dah selesai tu,takde la budak tu suffer sangat bila tidur malam. Anak aku takde apa2 pun tidur malam tu. Ok je.

Satu lagi, bila dia buang air kecil, tolong basuhkan, cuci sikit, lap2 sikit, takut ada infection. Jauhkan dari makan telur, doktor tu kata. )
